Gustav’s YouTube Moments – 2.11.2012

Gather Round Children,

Welcome to the second edition of Gustav’s YouTube Moments of the week…
This weeks Short Play pick of the week is chosen in honor of Halloween, Dia De Los Muertos and its overall coolness. From a 2009 Halloween show at the Palace Theater in Louisville, KY we have Monsters of Folk’s “Whole Lotta Losin”.  A “Super Band” of the hipster, alt-folk, cool kids, I imagine this crowd wearing a lot of jeans that I couldn’t get my legs into and many creative displays of how to wear a bandanna (Personally, I like to wear mine like a bandit). With members of Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket and M. Ward of the band M. Ward, how can you say no?!?
Like a good compilation tape, for the second pick of the week I had to take it up a notch (Thanks John Cusack, and kudos to anyone who recognizes that reference) we look no further then Jack & Meg White.  The Detroit transplants came to LA’s Greek Theatre for a show back in 2003 and definitely don’t disappoint. The two things that always amaze me about the White Stripes are how it always sounds like a very large, loud band, not a guy playing a guitar and a girl trying to keep time on the drums.  The second thing is how tired I would be if  in their band.  They don’t  take a lot of breaks during a show. Not to talk, take sips of bourbon, or even catch their breath. If I ever became the third white stripe  I would require plenty of snacks (read Diet Mountain Dew and gummy bears) and a half hour intermission so that my heart wouldn’t explode from exertion. I hope that you enjoy!
Finally, for this week we are going to take it down a notch and calm it down a little. Minus the first three minutes of introduction from one of the greasiest looking gents ever, this one is pretty solid.  As everyone knows, nothing brings you down from the high of a White Stripes Show like a chat on the Financial Crisis and a Civil War story.
Until Next Week

One Response to Gustav’s YouTube Moments – 2.11.2012

  1. Hey Gustav,

I love your work but can we get more videos of squirrels on water skis? Or maybe a good at home lip sync of Call Me Maybe…or some crotch shot bloopers.

    Thanks!
